Apple – Europe's first Apple Developer Center is set to open in the German capital later this year - making Berlin one of only five cities worldwide to host such a facility. More information here.

Google – The new Google AI Center Berlin builds on Google's decade-long commitment to AI in the German capital. It underlines and boosts Berlin's reputation as a leading tech and innovation hub. More information here.

Foresight Institute – The research non-profit launched its AI for Science & Safety Node in Berlin. It will provide grant funding, computing power, and office space for researchers and founders. More information here.

Planet Labs – The leading provider of global, daily satellite imagery and insights is expanding its European HQ in Berlin. Planet will double the production capacity of its next-generation, high-resolution Pelican fleet. More information here.

Today's Tech Topic

As a premier global hub for healthcare, life sciences, and medical technologies, Berlin is further investing in the development of cutting-edge medicine.

A few weeks ago, the Health Innovation Quarter Berlin-Mitte was officially designated as Berlin's twelfth Innovation District. The site is initiated by Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Bayer. It brings research, development, and clinical application closer together. Learn more about Berlin's Innovation Districts ("Zukunftsorte" in German) and your business opportunities here. 

In April, two new research centers opened their doors: Si-M and BeCAT - jointly launched by Charité and Technical University of Berlin. At the "The Simulated Human" (Si-M) engineers, data scientists, and clinicians are aiming to simulate human biology to enhance diagnostics and therapeutic approaches without the use of animal experimentation.  At the "Berlin Center for Advanced Therapies" (BeCAT) researchers will use specialized lab space to develop so-called "living drugs", therapies based on genes, cells, and tissues. The mission is to tackle the root causes of disease and offer lasting recovery. 

Flashback of the Quarter

The BBO hosted the Deep Tech Berlin Happy Hour during Deep Tech Week NYC. We enjoyed conversations with startups, VCs, founders, investors, and enthusiasts of the deep tech ecosystem with backgrounds in bio-tech, manufacturing, AI, and space tech. More information here.

At Space Tech Expo USA we promoted Berlin as Europe's rising hub for New Space innovations. The event brought together innovators, startups, industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers from across the global space ecosystem. More information here.

Walross 4 Arrives on U.S. East Coast

After sailing across the Atlantic and passing the Bahamas, the Walross 4 of the Academic Sailing Club (ASV) reached Miami. The yacht is continuing its journey along the East Coast to NYC to participate as Berlin’s official ambassador in the Sail4th 250 celebrations. More information here.
